Sandwich break

York Avenue just north of 73rd

A recent article in The New Yorker lauded the breakfast sandwich. Helen Rosner expounded on the joys of a perfect balance between all its components. While fascinated by her well-expressed argument, I scoffed at the idea. A sandwich is something plus something between two pieces of bread. Breakfast is a plate of sunny eggs plus some toast.

Full disclosure requires I honestly tell you I enjoy the Starbucks 🌟 breakfast treat of an Impossible sausage many a morning. It’s a combo of egg plus cheese with the plant-based meat on a toasty lovely roll.

I appreciated its goodness, but thought it was just a fast food concept.

Enter an egg on a pita from Claire’s. Ta da! Its secret sauce is tahini poured over the scrambled egg plus pickles. All of this is set deep in the pita pocket, the eggs scrambled soft against the crunch of pickle. Talk about balance.

Can’t cook?

What food would you say is your specialty?

Living in New York City, we are exposed to such great variety of the edible and delectable.

Different cultures have merged into a melted pot of flavors. Many of them are surprising. Lots of them prove tantalizing.

An inability to produce a decent meal on my part is saved by the phone. “Hi, I am calling for a delivery please.”

A ground breaking

Dan Dunn is an artist whose works are a multi-media mix of performance and painting.

His work involves an audience.

His studio is the venue at which he performs his art.

Painting for him is a process during which he interacts with the attendees.

On this event, he was the featured artist for the WCM ceremonial groundbreaking for their new student residence.

He sets his creation to music and offers comic miming as he paints.

The building, located at York and 74th, is projected for a 2025 opening. His rendition was handed out as a lovely party favor and souvenir of the luncheon.

Go!

When we were Liberty fans, the team never managed a playoff run. Times have changed!

In other sports-related matters, we were watching the Jets (1-4 at that point), just 2 points behind the Eagles who were undefeated up til then. Jets won soon after we changed the channel.

Moral if there has to be one for this thread: we look away when “our team” hits a change in fortune.
