Love is on the marquee

Near 42nd, right across the avenue from the NYPL lions, I passed a Lovello “Permanent Jewelry” store.

A little down the road, there was a Love Korean Restaurant.

At Peacefood Union Sq, I giggled at the Both sign on the restroom door, envisioning couples going in. Not the intent, I know, but isn’t it romantic?

On 4th Avenue & 12th, I find one more Love sign at a yogurt shop.

Speaks

Having recently had a speakeasy experience, I am alert to hidden bars.

You could easily pass this door without a thought about its late night program.

Having your name over the door technically disqualifies you or rather your joint as a speakeasy!

I include little known places like the Roreich Museum in this picture book look.

All of these are technically not secret enough to be speaks, but they harbor a mystery.

Back alleys, belowstairs steps and small doors are also mysterious. Enough for me.

The funds raised support the next generation of artists in El Barrio. If you’ve been here before, it’s a heartfelt tribute to our shared journey. If you’re just joining us it’s a toast to the creativity past, present and yet to come.
