Progress

Would a flush toilet be considered a modern amenity? A 2400-year-old toilet was excavated in China recently. There is evidence of even earlier such luxuries dating back 4000 years in India.

One woosh and sewage is swooshed away.

The use of tools to gather or hunt may seem like the accomplishment of an advanced society. That makes it all the more interesting that otters use tools to, for instance, crack mollusks.

It’s the diversity of the animal and for that matter the floral and vegetal, kingdom that has me agape. I am wonderstruck by all that the oceans and lands have to offer. Adaptive evolution is a genuinely hard concept.

I may never grasp the full history of earth’s flora and fauna but its tidbits are awe-inspiring.

That history keeps evolving. Just grab snippets from Nat Geo to see new facts about humanity and our cohorts as they emerge. For me, that’s why not being able to sort it all out is a kind of progress.

Kind Friends

You have been admonished in the most colorful way. “Do more of what makes you happy” is phrase enough to make me happy.

Kindness and friendship are not activities but I am grateful for both.

The person who wrapped these lovely flowers in that lovely tote offers me both kindness and friendship.

I am a very lucky person. She is one of many kind friends that have gathered around me.

My heart swells with gratitude to all of them. You know who you are!

I have also been fortunate in having strangers come to my assistance. I may not know who you are but I am very appreciative of your aid. And, of course, your kindness in all those unexpected acts of friendship.

Tis the

Wishing you the best for the holiday season.

Thanks Giving is the kick-off event.

Kick-off in more than one sense as football is such a big part of the day.

We go from here. Turkeys have been pardoned, although many more have been roasted. Pies have been baked or bought and consumed along with much more.

Sated, we are prepared to be grateful for all we have and all we share.

The day itself is a ritual of gratitude. It’s a reminder to us that we have it pretty good.

Gratitude is not a bad rite to celebrate. We could, really give it our full attention- without the distractions of turkey, pumpkin pie and football- 365 and on those leap years 366.
